Meet The Team
Hi, I’m Brenda – the founder of BFF Studios and a proud Portland local. My fitness journey has been shaped by both personal experience and a passion for helping others feel strong and supported in their bodies, no matter their age or fitness level.
After spending several years in the Northern Territory, where I met and married my husband, we returned to Portland in 1998 to be closer to family. What was meant to be a short stay quickly became permanent, and over two decades later, Portland is well and truly home.
I began my professional training in 1999, earning a Diploma in Fitness along with qualifications in Pilates, Barre, Freestyle, Tai Chi, REFIT, Older Adults, Boxing for Fitness, and more. Following a back injury in 2002, I developed a deep interest in injury rehabilitation. With limited support available at the time, I took it upon myself to research, learn and recover. That journey gave me not only a stronger body, but a renewed purpose: to help others move safely, confidently and pain-free.
BFF Studios – originally Brenda’s Functional Fitness – started as a single weekly session and quickly grew into a thriving, full-time studio. We specialise in small group, semi-private and personal training sessions so that every client receives the care, support and individual attention they deserve.
At BFF Studios, we create a welcoming space particularly for those over 35 – to feel comfortable, capable, and empowered. Whether you're returning to fitness, managing an injury, or simply looking for a supportive environment where you’re not just a number, we’re here to help you feel your best.
“It’s not about being the fittest in the room – it’s about feeling at home in your body, supported by your community, and proud of what you can do.”
Hi, I'm Sharon. Originally from Robe, South Australia, I grew up on a farm and was involved in sporting activities at School often being chosen to represent my school at inter-school level. I have continued to maintain a high level of fitness by regularly attending group fitness classes.
I moved to Portland in 1991 and in 1994 began a career in the Aged Care industry.
I regularly attended Tai chi classes and with my love for the program and knowing the many and varied benefits of Tai Chi came my decision to train in the program. I achieved my Tai Chi Instructor Certificate with Oz Tai Chi in 2013 and began teaching from the heart. I later went on to obtain my Certificate in Tai Chi for Arthritis with Arthritis Victoria in 2016 as well as my Certificate in Chi Ball in 2019.
I am committed to helping people by promoting overall wellbeing and functional movement through the benefits of Tai Chi.
Ceri Oxford
Executive Assistant
Hi, I’m Ceri! I am the executive assistant here at BFF Studios but I have been involved in BFF Studios since way before it began as I am also Brenda’s daughter and a member of the BFF family. I have always helped with the BFF celebrations including making a fabulous birthday cake each year.
I was born in the Northern Territory and moved to portland when I was 9 and have lived here ever since. I have had many jobs, including Waitress, receptionist, Birthday Party Coordinator, Ward Clerk and Community Transport and Telecare Coordinator and ran Spellbound Boutique. With my love for animals I opened my own business - The Nanny Portland where I care for your animals when you need to be somewhere else.
BFF Studios is like a big extended family, we all look out for each other and never judge.
The Nanny Portland is also a proud supporter of BFF Studios
